6 Women Killed Every Hour 58% of all female homicide victims worldwide (137 every day) were killed by a member of their own family last year, finds a new UN study. The study found that of the approximately 87,000 women and girls intentionally killed in ’17, died at the hands of someone who was either an “intimate partner” or a relative. This amounts to 6 women being killed every hour by people they know. Although the vast majority of worldwide homicide victims are men (8 out of 10 homicides in ’17, women bear the greatest burden in terms of violence perpetrated by intimate partners. 82% of victims of homicide perpetrated by intimate partners or family members were female vs. 18% for men. The global average, 1.3 female homicide victims per 100,000 females, has been stable since ’12. However, Africa and the Americas are the regions women are most at risk of being killed by intimate partners or family members. (USA Today 11/26/18)

 

Sin & Punishment 62% of Americans expect Jesus to return and judge all people, finds a Ligonier Ministries’ study. But just 54% agree hell is a real place where certain people will be punished forever, 30% disagree. 66% admit everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature, 27% disagree and 7% aren’t sure. 23% say even the smallest sin deserves eternal damnation, but 69% disagree and 8% aren’t sure. Americans with evangelical beliefs are the most likely to agree (49%) that the smallest sin deserves eternal damnation. (2018 State of Theology Study)

 

Americans’ Shifting Theological Opinions 60% of Americans say religious belief is a matter of personal opinion. For 70% such beliefs include one true God existing in 3 persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And a similar number who say God is perfect. But an increasing majority of Americans deny Jesus has always existed and many say the Holy Spirit is a force rather than a personal being. (LifeWay Research 10/17/18)

Gen Z Is The Most Diverse Generation in American history and 39% daily interact with people different than themselves. 57% of Gen Z uses screen media for 4+ hours per day. Confused about gender identity and sexuality, 12% describe their own sexuality as something other than heterosexual and 33% say gender is how a person feels, not their birth sex. Only 4% of Gen Z has a Biblical worldview, while 34% identify as atheist, agnostic or “none”. (Impact 360 Institute 11/3/18)

 

If Americans Over 50 Were Their Own Country, they’d be the 3rd largest economy in the world, larger than the entire economies of Germany, Japan or India. Between now and 2030 they will grow at almost 3 times the rate of adults under 50. And among adults over 50, women do the majority of consumer spending. Parents Concerns According to the 50th Anniversary Motion Pictures Assoc. of America report, parents want to shelter their children from sex, nudity and violence. When asked, “How concerned are you with the content… appear-ing in movies your child would see?” Graphic sex scenes top the list at 79% while 69% were concerned about female nudity, 67% with drugs, 60% with violence and 28% with toilet humor.
