"50 State Capitols"

Dave wrote: I highly recommend A Celebration of State Capitols written by Richard R. Gibson. In his book Mr. Gibson makes a wonderfully detailed but also enjoyable presentation of not only each state capitol but also retired capitols, governors’ mansions, and other interesting charts and fascinating trivia. You can learn which state was the first to have an official state cookie and why one state flag has a diamond in it. Do you know the only state which has never had a foreign flag fly over it? You’ll learn this and much more by reading this book. In A Celebration of State Capitols four colorful pages are devoted to each capitol. You’ll see details about its construction plus a time line showing for each capitol when it was completed, remodeled, and/or reconstructed in relation to other interesting and important events at the time. Colorful photos and surprising information is included for each capitol. This book is a wonderful addition to any home or library. You’ll be well-informed and delightfully surprised by what you learn from reading this account of state capitols! I've read most of this book and can hardly wait to see what else I'm going to learn.

Curtis wrote: I had the pleasure of meeting Richard Gibson and learning about his book A Celebration of State Capitols at the Pikes Peak Library District Mountain of Authors program. It was a privilege speaking with Mr. Gibson and learning first-hand about his work. At first glance, his book catches your eye thanks to its colorful cover and "coffee table" size. The book is arranged alphabetically by state, with each state receiving multiple pages of photos and text. Every page of the book is highly illustrated, and I was particularly impressed with the wealth of information and tidbits of knowledge devoted to each state capitol. The amount of time and effort devoted to this book is very evident especially when realizing that Mr. Gibson personally traveled to every state in the country to research and photograph each building. Overall, the book is a durable, impressive resource that I would recommend to any person, library, or retailer interested in preserving our national and state history.

bclshad wrote: As a public school teacher, I find Richard Gibson's book, A Celebration of State Capitols , full of possibilities for learning activities. The brilliant color and layout of the book captures the reader's attention and makes it difficult to put down, a real plus for students! Stories for each state are titled with witty and familiar captions which encourage reading of each section and bring life to historical facts and anecdotes. Because the author included many factual charts on information such as architectural styles, building materials, construction details, site orientation, number of years to completion, and original cost to build, I envision many different learning experiences which could be developed for student learning. The disciplines of math, social studies, science, and the use of the English language could all be supported through creative use of information presented. Even a botanical study based on the pictures of flowers indigenous to each state could be developed and the U.S. history time line which coordinates with happenings in each state shows the socio-political interactions of a growing country. A treasure hunt activity would be a fun learning experience, as well as many other activities. The book can certainly stimulate web or library research on many topics. From a teacher's perspective, A Celebration of State Capitols would be an excellent addition to the classroom or as a library resource.

Gary wrote:A Celebration of State Capitols, researched and authored Richard Gibson is stunning in quality of detail in the photographs, text, captions, design, paper, printing, book jacket, etc. What a delightful way for anyone to learn behinbd the scenes information about our nation's 50 capitols. No veteran book publisher would ever suspect this is his first book. He did an extraordinary job. As a marketing consultant to more than 50 publishers I can easily see capitol and historic museum gift shops as well as libraries of every sort wanting to make sure they add this unique volume to their shelves. I should think many bookstores, both brick and mortar and online wanting to make sure they have this valuable resoource on hand for their history buff customers.

We appreciated your most professional photography and research to achieve such a complete work about our state capitols, their history, and even some of our countries Christian heritage.
It is obvious that you and Ella have spent many years of tremendous amounts of travel and hard work towards this accomplishment.
Thanks again for sharing with us.
